Ron Jeremy: The Porn King. Introduction
Ron-Jeremy

Ronald Jeremy Hyatt (Ron Jeremy) nicknamed “The Hedgehog”

If there is a performer in porn business who really needs no introduction, then it’s Ron Jeremy for sure! There is hardly any person who has never seen or heard of him unless he’s been living in a monastery for the last 35 years. Ron Jeremy was named № 1 pornstar of all time by AVN Magazine. He is a real adult industry legend since 1988 when John Holmes passed away. Ron isn’t blessed with a film star appearance, he is heavyset, mustachioed and short man (5′ 6″), but his talent and appeal lies in other areas (which happen to be 10 inches, erect). Looking as a regular guy Jeremy shows amazing endurance in front of cameras contributing to his own phenomenal success in adult industry.

Ronald Jeremy Hyatt (Ron Jeremy) nicknamed “The Hedgehog”

Ronald Jeremy Hyatt nicknamed “The Hedgehog” was born on March 12, 1953 in Queens, New York, USA, to a middle class Jewish family. He attended Cardozo High School where his classmates were actor Reginald VelJohnson and ex CIA director George Tenet. Ron got a bachelor’s degree in education and theatre and master’s degree in Queens College (NY). Jeremy also taught special-education classes and worked as a substitute teacher in regular classes. Now, speaking of coming back to teaching, Ron says he still has a valid teaching license. But if parents see him with a child, they’ll want to call 911.

So Ron Jeremy gave up working as a teacher (calling this profession his “ace in the hole”) to start a career as an actor in New York. As Ron says, he always wanted to act. The education was just secondary in case the acting wasn’t going. His dad, Arnold, would always tell him to have something to fall back on. So, in 1978 Ron Jeremy posed for “Playgirl” magazine in its “Boy Next Door” pages after his then-girlfriend sent his photo off. Shortly after that Ron was deluged with female fan letters and captured the attention of porn filmmakers. Beginning in 1979, Jeremy has appeared in over 800 porn movies including Inside Seka, Terms of Endowment and Natural Born Thrillers.

He began to use his first and middle name in porn after his grandmother Rose (listed as R. Hyatt in the phone book) was sick and tired of people calling her thinking they were contacting Ron Jeremy. She even had to move out of her apartment for a month. Ron’s father told him to be in that crazy naked business if he wanted to but never use the family name again or he would kill him. As for his nickname “The Hedgehog”, Bill Margold gave it to him after an incident on the set of Olympic Fever (1979). It’s a popular misbelief that Ron’s nickname was the result of Jeremy’s weight gain. At that time he was rather fit.

So he got his nickname after he flew in from New York to take part in the scene, dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, expecting warm weather. Instead he chilled to the point during his motorcycle ride to the set located in the Californian mountains where the weather was close to blizzard conditions. So Ron Jeremy was whisked away in a hot shower to warm up. When he appeared after it, the hairs on his body were standing on end and Margold told he was looking like a hedgehog, a walking, talking hedgehog.

Guinness Book of World Records listed Ron for “Most Appearances in Adult Films” as Jeremy’s entry on the Internet Adult Film Database counts over 2,000 movies in which he has acted, and 281 videos which he has shot as a director. Ron’s work brought him a spot on the Adult Star Path of Fame located in Edison (New Jersey). He also was inducted into both XRCO Hall of Fame and the AVN since Ron Jeremy has been recognized for his contributions to the porn business. There was even a joke at the time saying some female porn performers wouldn’t act in sado-masochism, bestiality and Ron Jeremy scenes as the kinkier acts.

Except acting in porn videos, Ron Jeremy worked as a “special consultant” for the 9½ Weeks (1986) and Boogie Nights (1997). He also appeared in They Bite horror movie (1996) in a scene making a film-within-a-film. Later Jeremy took part in the film The Chase, in which he performed a small cameo role as a news cameraman. He also played the monster “Blisterface” in children’s show Bone Chillers, a bartender in Spun (2002) and a male strip-club announcer in Detroit Rock City. Ron Jeremy appeared in The Boondock Saints (1999) and Zombiegeddon (2003). He was an extra in Ghostbusters and had a cameo in Killing Zoe. Additionally, Jeremy acted in a few productions released by Troma Entertainment, including Poultrygeist, Terror Firmer and The Toxic Avenger IV: Citizen Toxie.

In 2001, Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy was released featuring Ron in that biographical documentary. In 2003, he played himself in the comedy movie Being Ron Jeremy, which was a parody of Being John Malkovich. Rare documentary about adult industry deals without Ron. Among them are Moby, LMFAO, Guns N’ Roses, Armin Van Buuren, Everclear and Sublime. Ron Jeremy sang his own song called “Freak Of The Week” which stayed 27 weeks in the Billboard Charts; there is also a music video for this rap single. He also features in video games, such as Celebrity Deathmatch, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Bonetown, Postal III. Ron Jeremy appeared in a series of video spoofs for Heavy.com video sharing site.

Using his celebrity status, Ron Jeremy has posed for PETA in its advertisement for raising awareness of the overpopulation of domesticated animals. Its title exclaims, “Too much sex can be a bad thing. Spay and neuter your cats and dogs” with Jeremy lying partially naked on a bed with his wrists in handcuffs. He also appeared in a video for PETA. In 2005, Ron made headlines after he was invited to address the Oxford Union to tell some amazing stories as the biggest and best porn star in business. In 2006, Jeremy visited different Canada and U.S. colleges as a part of his “Porn Debate Tour”, having begun a series of debates on porn opposing Pastor Craig Gross who was the founder of anti-porn website XXXchurch.com.

In February 2007, Ron Jeremy released his memoir called Ron Jeremy: The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz, published by Harper Collins. Pay-per-minute porn website HotMovies.com presents Ron as their official spokesperson. He also has his own website called RonJeremy.com. In June 2009, a swingers nightclub Sesso was opened by Ron and his business partner Paul Smith. He is also noticed in the marketing of a line of rum titled “Ron de Jeremy” in which “ron” stays for “rum” in Spanish. TV commercials for the rum, featuring Ron Jeremy himself, saying that it’s “Ron Style” rum.

Being a famous veteran porn movie actor, Ron used to be the host of 1980x Manhattan public access late-night naked/porn show: Interludes After Midnight. In 2001, he appeared in the hit game show, Weakest Link with Gary Coleman and other celebrities. Ron is known as a talented piano player. Jeremy is a millionaire but is extremely frugal with his finances. As it’s said in Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy documentary, he doesn’t like spending money on anything, even going so far he uses usual garbage bags instead of luggage when he takes a trip.

Ron Jeremy often casts in bit parts in Roger Avary’s movies. He was also a host of “Techsmart”, a technology review series made by Heavy.com website. At his 60 years of age, the charismatic and often funny Ron Jeremy still appears in front of the cameras in porn movies and he’s definitely attained the status of icon in the adult business and beyond. And it seems, Ron isn’t going to retire from porn any time soon. As he says, he will do this the day when he wakes up in the morning and finds his dick lying under the pillow. Or he will be jogging and hearing the popping sound of his cock falling to the ground. Ron says, he still does porn while his penis still works, it’s fun, it pays his bills and he still likes it.
