The research shows that bisexual girls are more likely to suffer from alcoholism and depression. Do you consider being a bisexual as a fun, as a carefree walk around the park? In fact bisexual people often feel rejected by both the heterosexual and homosexual society, and that feeling of not fitting in appears to be strongest with bisexual girls.

Scientists of the University of South Carolina and George Mason University held a nationally representative research of 14,412 individuals, surveying them in 1994 when participants were in grades 7 to 12, then once again in 2007-2008 when they were aged from 24 to 32. They discovered that while bisexual people of both sexes were at high risk for alcohol addiction and depression when they were young, the bisexual guys seemed to be less inclined to face these problems as they grew up. Nevertheless, the bisexual women kept struggling and were also more likely to smoke and be victimized.

There seems to be no clear explanation for these investigations, although scientist named Lisa Lindley has got her theories. She said about bisexual girls that they were often invisible. There is much prejudice against them. They are told if you are confused, choose one. There tends to be this expectation or norm that an individual chooses one sexual identity and sticks with it. Lindley said there is a lot of misunderstanding about bisexual people. She thinks their risk has a lot more to do with label.

She also reported that bisexual guys tend to have a stronger connection to their community, which may be an obstacle to depression and alcoholism, whereas girls may experience they don’t have a community in which to be at home. But when the things come down to it, according to Lisa, the whole LGBT society is at higher risk than the heterosexual community in regards to alcohol addiction and depression.

Nevertheless, she noticed, it is dangerous to examine the whole society as one entity. It is necessary to separate the groups. Lindley said about the LGBT community, that they were not all troubled; they were not all high risk.
